Role of a Program Director
Who are Program Directors?
- Program Directors (PDs) are highly effective teachers who lead the US Empowered program in their own high school. These teachers form strong bonds with students and families, provide differentiated support based on student need, and maintain excellent organization inside and outside the classroom. PDs are commanding yet approachable teachers who consistently set high expectations for their students.
How do we find our Program Directors?
- US Empowered recruits PDs through recommendations from students, other highly effective teachers, administrators, and nationally recognized teacher training programs such as Teach for America, New Leaders for New Schools, and the Urban Education Institute.
- If you or someone you know is an outstanding teacher within your school, please Apply to be a PD or Nominate a PD.
What do Program Directors do?
- PDs receive ongoing training, tools, and support from US Empowered in order to successfully facilitate the US Empowered program at their schools.
- PDs recruit and select underperforming students who exhibit potential and motivation.
- PDs lead these students through a three-year college preparation and persistence program, (junior year of high school through freshman year of college) that consists of scripted courses, conferences, and a system of online tools that enhance student achievement and ensure enrollment in and graduation from four-year colleges.
